The Power of Decision

Person sitting on rock overlooking a mountain lake. With the Tony Robbins quote, "It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped."

You may have heard of decision fatigue. Decision fatigue is being overwhelmed by or the inability to make everyday decisions. What should I wear? What should I eat? What should I do?

However, decision fatigue is a conversation for another day. In this article, we are focusing on how to make life-altering decisions.

Should I quit my job?

Should I sell my house?

Should I marry this person?

Should I break up with this person?

Each of these questions implies that there is one correct decision. By asking ourselves what we should do, we are setting ourselves up to think there is a right or wrong decision.

There are no right decisions, and there are no wrong decisions. We get to decide what's right or wrong. The fear of making a "wrong" decision prevents us from moving forward. When we are indecisive, we have, in essence, decided not to do the thing.

Life is a series of decisions, some big and some small. Some things may turn out differently than planned. This doesn't make it a wrong decision. On the contrary, every decision provides information.

We spend way too much time making decisions. You are an adult who can decide how you want to live. If you dislike the results, decide to do something else.

Making decisions gives us confidence and energy.

Making decisions gives us peace and surety.

So the next time you find yourself caught up in indecision, remember there is no wrong decision. Make a decision and decide it's the right decision. You can always change direction and choose something different.
