Our Thoughts Create Our Life
Our Thoughts Become Our Reality
Our thoughts become our reality. I am trying to remember the rabbit hole I was lost in when I first became aware of this concept in 2015. It was as if a lightbulb went on in my head. I was in my mid-fifties and could look back and see how my thinking created my life's good and not-so-good parts.
It is not as if we think something, then boom, it becomes. But it is the thoughts we believe continually—thoughts about our self-worth, abilities, worldview, etc. When we constantly think a certain way, our thoughts become our beliefs, and our beliefs become our personality, aka our personal reality.
Feelings Are the Fuel
How we feel about a particular circumstance or topic shapes our beliefs. I unintentionally rolled through life before understanding that my thoughts created my life. Things happened, and I dealt with them as they came. I never considered that I could change my beliefs and, therefore, my life.
Because our thoughts create our lives, if I don't like a particular aspect of my life, I can assess my thinking, look at the results, and then decide if I want to create something different.
If I'm unhappy in a relationship, I can determine my thoughts about the relationship and decide if I want to think something different.
If I'm disappointed with my physical appearance, I can look at how I think about myself and my ability to be fit and healthy. Those thoughts, aka beliefs about myself, determine the actions I will take.
A Belief is a Thought We Continue to Think
A belief is a thought we continue to think. The emotions produced from our beliefs are the fuel for our actions. Our actions or lack of actions create the circumstances and consequences in our lives. Therefore, our emotions (feelings) have the power to create.
Consider some of your beliefs and how they may differ from what others think. Our beliefs do not make us right or wrong. Our beliefs guide our actions, which create evidence to support those beliefs.
Let's use one of my beliefs as an example. I can get stronger as I grow older, and I believe we do not have to decline as we grow older. I feel excited and motivated to work out and stay active when I think that thought. Consequently, I'm building muscle and getting stronger in my sixties.
Conversely, many peers use age to excuse what they cannot do. I'm not denying that our bodies naturally change as we age. However, our strength, mobility, and flexibility will decline if we focus on what we can't do instead of what we can do.
I can be, do, or have anything I want is such a powerful thought. No circumstance or other person is responsible for my life. Now, that is an empowering thought!
